What does Houdini have to do with halloween? by Damien Carriere

Well helloween is once again approaching and I have several parties and events booked but I am always reminded of Houdini at this time of year. Houdini was a big inspiration to me and especially my escapes.

Houdini died on October 31, 1926.

Many people have the the misconception that Houdin died from doing an escape however, that is incorrect!

Houdini was a performer and as part of his performance he would allow very strong men to punch him and he could withstand their punches.

On the afternoon of October 22, 1926, two McGill University students visited Houdini's dressing room. According to reports, Houdini was looking through his mail, when one of the students, J. Gordon Whitehead, asked Harry if he could indeed withstand any blow to the abdomen, as the magician had previously proclaimed. They then punched Houdini while he was unprepared.

Harry Houdini died of peritonitis, secondary to a ruptured appendix at 1:26 p.m. on October 31, 1926 in Room 401 at Detroit's Grace Hospital, aged 52. In his final days, he optimistically held to a strong belief that he would recover, but his last words before dying were reportedly, "I'm tired of fighting.

Damien performed as master balloon twister at our Memory Grove ribbon-cutting ceremony and was a big hit with both the kids and adults. I would highly recommend Damien to add that special entertainment ’twist’ to make your celebration or event truly memorable.
